Ingredients For A Fabulous Life
raising the bar on life, one post at a time...
Updated 3/2/2021
Today’s post features two Passover dessert recipes! Orange Cream Pie with Halva-Walnut Crust and Bittersweet Chocolate Orange Mousse Cake with Passover Whipped Cream.
Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy thinking of new and innovative ways to prepare delicious Passover foods with matzo.
In fact, this year I created a really special vegetarian Passover entree that also works well for your second night Seder.
My Asparagus Matzo Terrines with Blender Hollandaise Sauce is an innovative take on an elegant lasagna.
Layers of herbed ricotta cheese and fresh Spring vegies between matzo, smothered with an quick blender Hollandaise.
It can be served as pictured here, or served domino-style on top of a pool of Hollandaise. Either way, it’s a really posh entree for a Passover meal.
And what’s even better? It can be made ahead and freshly baked the day you want to serve it.

NOW LET’S GET ON WITH THE TWO FABULOUS PASSOVER DESSERT RECIPES!
What a fabulous way to make Passover a little “tangy” this year!
Orange Cream Pie with Halva-Walnut Crust is a fabulous twist on a traditional key lime pie. I just made a Passover-friendly switcheroo by substituting halva crumbles and ground walnuts for the graham cracker crumb crust.
Another difference is that many key lime pie recipes are “no-bake“, but that’s not true here. After par-baking the crust, the filled pie also needs a quick bake time in the oven to set the orange cream.
Once it’s cooled and chilled for a few hours, it’s ready to serve.
And, if you’re worried about finding KOSHER FOR PASSOVER Sweetened Condensed Milk, don’t be! I included a quick and easy “blender” recipe that whips up in 2 minutes flat!
If you want piped rosettes of Passover Whipped Cream on your Orange Cream Pie, the recipe is coming up.
Any other objections? Sorry, I can’t do anything about the calorie count!
This Orange Cream Pie with Halva-Walnut Crust is really simple and comes together in less than an hour. And that includes par-baking the crust and then a short baking time for the pie itself.
Since this is a DAIRY PASSOVER DESSERT, it would be perfect served with the vegetarian Asparagus Matzo Terrines with Blender Hollandaise!
YOU’LL FIND THE PRINTABLE RECIPE CARD FOR ORANGE CREAM PIE WITH HALVA-WALNUT CRUST AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST
Not your typical flourless cake, this lovely dessert produces a light, mousse center.
As it cools, the center collapses into a perfect surface to slather the Passover Whipped Cream! Sprinkle some cocoa or chocolate shavings on top for a gorgeous Parve dessert.
There are so many different recipes for flour-less chocolate cakes out there, it’s hard to choose which one you want to make.
All using the same basic three ingredients, eggs, chocolate and butter, but producing a variety of textures and final product.
Do you want a “poufy soufflé-like texture, or a dense, fudgy appearance and mouth-feel? You can have it either way, it’s just a matter of how the three basic ingredients are put together.
This is one of the Passover dessert recipes you should put on your holiday menu this year. It’s got tons of intense chocolate flavor, with just a hint of orange that kicks it up a notch!
You’ll find the recipe at this link: BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE ORANGE MOUSSE CAKE WITH PASSOVER WHIPPED CREAM
Either Orange Cream Pie with Halva-Walnut Crust or Bittersweet Chocolate Orange Mousse Cake would be a fabulous addition to your Passover menus this year. Better yet, why not make both, to last all Passover long!

A delightfully creamy Passover dessert made extra-special with a fabulous Halva-Walnut crust! The orange cream filling make this a tangy and refreshing end to any Spring menu.
HALVA-WALNUT CRUST
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place the halva crumbles in a medium bowl. Sprinkle ground walnuts evenly over top. Pour in melted butter and stir gently to combine.
2. Spray a 9 inch pie pan with non-stick cooking spray. Pour halva mixture into the pie pan and spread with your fingers or a spoon to make a crust on the bottom and up the sides. Press firmly to compact the mixture into an even crust . Crimp top edges if desired.
3. Place pie pan on a rimmed baking sheet and place in oven. Bake for 9-11 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.
ORANGE CREAM FILLING
4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and yolks until well combined. Add the orange juice and zest, whisking until mixture is smooth and creamy. Pour filling into cooled crust and bake for 15-17 minutes, or until filling is set.
5. Cool on a wire rack and chill for at least 2 hours before serving. (you can pipe rosettes of Passover whipped cream on before serving too if desired!) SEE NOTE BELOW
KOSHER SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK: Pour boiling water into a blender and add nonfat dry milk, sugar and melted butter. Cover and blend on high speed for 30 seconds or until smooth. Keep extra in a covered container in the refrigerator.
