TRIPLE B’S – BANANA, BLACKBERRY  AND BROWNIE POPS

Smooth and creamy banana pudding pops punctuated with sweet fresh blackberries and chunks of chocolate brownies, turns a popsicle into a sublime culinary experience!  You’ll need to try these Banana, Blackberry and Brownie pops for yourself!

Making these pops are a snap since you use packaged banana pudding as the base.  I’ve left it up to you whether you use instant or cook and serve pudding.

Use the type you prefer, but,  please note that this recipe was tested with the cooked variety.  I use instant pudding all the time in recipes, but I was raised on cooked pudding, and it’s a hard habit to break.

banana blackberry and brownie pops on ice in silver traySame thing goes for the brownie chunks used in Banana, Blackberry and Brownie Pops.  Either make a batch of your favorite brownie recipe, or pick up a few in the bakery department of your grocer’s. 

Since we’re brownie-lovers in our house, I usually have some cut and individually-wrapped in my freezer.  With just the two of us, one batch can last a few weeks this way!

But seriously, in this recipe, if you purchase one of those huge brownies from the store, your pops will be just delicious.

NAN’S TIP: AVOID FROSTED BROWNIES, AS THEY CAN TURN YOUR PRETTY YELLOW POPS INTO A MUDDY MESS!

 

YA GOTTA USE THE RIGHT KIND OF MOLD!

Pudding pops are famous for being dreamy, creamy pops that tend to be soft in texture.  That means you must use a flexible silicone popsicle mold when making this type of pop.

mini popsicle silicone mold with 10 compartmentsThere are lots of different popsicle molds on the market these days, if you haven’t looked lately, you likely be amazed and dazed!

Don’t get intimidated, just try to keep in mind the kind of pops you want to make on a regular basis, and buy an appropriate mold.

The mis en place image above shows my regular-sized flexible molds I also own a set of mini-pop molds that makes 10 adorable popsicles that are a perfect size for the little ones in your family. 

In all honesty, since there is such a large choice of molds, most are fairly inexpensive.  So, while you’re shopping, I’d truly advise you to get one flexible mold and one hard-sided, traditional mold.  

With both molds in your kitchen arsenal, you’ll be equipped to produce practically any popsicle recipe that you’d like to make.

Different ingredients freeze at different temperatures, thus making the process of making homemade popsicles a little tricky.

Plus, you’ve got to consider the amount of air inside the ingredients and how to keep your pops from being hard slabs of ice.

For example, smoothies have lots of air whipped inside, so you need to leave more room in the mold for expansion. And alcohol freezes at much lower temperatures than other ingredients, so recipes need to be adjusted accordingly.

So you can see, there’s a little more to making fabulous popsicles than just pouring liquid into a mold.

Banana, Blackberry and Brownie Pops

Yield: 10-12 pops
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Additional Time: 1 day
Total Time: 1 day 20 minutes

Smooth and creamy banana pudding pops punctuated with sweet fresh blackberries and chunks of chocolate brownies, turns a popsicle into a sublime culinary experience!

Ingredients

  • FLEXIBLE SILICONE POPSICLE MOLDS with sticks inserted
  • 2 pkgs. banana pudding, made per package directions (instant or cook and serve)
  • 2 cups of 1/2" squares of your favorite chocolate brownies
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries

Instructions

  1. Add blackberries and brownie chunks to each pop mold, working around the stick to make sure some will show on both sides of pop. (set some on top of stick)
  2. Fill molds with banana pudding and smooth the tops. Cover mold and place in freezer for at least 24 hours before unmolding.
  3. Carefully remove from molds and individually wrap in plastic wrap if storing in freezer more than a few hours after unmolding.
