Celebrating Mother’s Day this year will be festive and delightfully delicious when hosting a “French-Themed” lunch to honor the mothers in your life.
First, the entire table is set in different shades of pink and white lace, with gorgeous hydrangeas providing the greenery. It’s very feminine and quite elegant with white linen napkins folded into a “pocket” and botanical wax sachet guests favors completing the tablescape. (pocket napkin fold and posies will be in a future post coming soon)
It’s going to be an amazing Mother’s Day celebration, and I’m making sure it will make up for not having one last year. I was determined to have a fabulous Mother’s Day Celebration this year and have worked hard to share a ton of fabulous recipes, DIY gift ideas and my Mother’s Day Planner PDF.
I hope you’ll find some recipes and ideas that you’ll want to share with your family this holiday.
Why not throw your own “ooh-la-la” luncheon this year too? Just download my Mother’s Day Planner and get started!
Here’s what is on the menu of my fabulously French Mother’s Day Luncheon:
No, of course I didn’t forget the dessert! I’ll tell you all about BOTH of them later in this post!
Sure I know, the saying goes, “practice makes perfect”, but that’s not what my Mom used to say! And she was an exceptional hostess!
When I’m planning one of my soirees, I always keep in mind what last minute details my recipes will need. I always develop a menu that has a lot of dishes that can be made ahead. I strive to keep the kitchen prep on party day to a minimum when possible.
I’m all about planning, from concept to execution. I use PRINTABLE PARTY PLANNERS for all the gatherings I host. It’s why I’m known for my soirees, both as a professional caterer, and as a home entertaining hostess.
HERE’S A SAMPLING OF THE PAGES CONTAINED IN MY MOTHER’S DAY PLANNER
Since I couldn’t find what I wanted on the internet, I went about creating my own! All my planners are based on the ones I used when I was a professional caterer.
From concept to take-home favors, I make sure I’ve got everything I need in one comprehensive resource, all in one place. They make hosting parties in my home a pleasure, instead of a stress-filled chore.
If you’d like to use my MOTHER’S DAY PLANNER this year, I’ll tell you how to get it and all my Mother’s Day “printables” at the end of this post.
I make a point of ENJOYING my own parties, or why at my age would I still throw them?

Now, let’s get to the good stuff, the food!
When I sat down to begin planning my Mother’s Day Luncheon, I knew I wanted it to have a French theme. So it was a no-brainer to include a lovely French cheese board on the luncheon menu.
The selection of cheeses would be served as my guests arrive and enjoyed while drinking their Pink Grapefruit Wine Spritzers.
I share with you the different kinds of French cheeses, and if you can believe it, the RULES of how to serve and eat French cheeses too!

Top this Cold Asparagus Soup with Roasted Shrimp and Shaved Asparagus Nests for a fabulous holiday luncheon dish.
That’s exactly what I’m doing! This lovely Spring soup will be a perfect addition to the party this year.
My plating choice was to make fun Shaved Asparagus Nests and then up the ante with the addition of roasted shrimp! It’s truly worthy of a very special occasion meal.

If you want to channel the flavors of France, then this salad (or salade!) is the one to be eating. That’s exactly why I chose it to be on the menu of my “French-Themed” Mother’s Day Luncheon this year.
It’s smoky, mustard-based vinaigrette taming the bitterness of the frisee and the chewy lardons of pork make this salad truly tempting.
The mothers in my life don’t care for “jammy” eggs, so you’ll see I deferred to their tastes when making this dish. Otherwise, I would advise keeping the cooking time down to make your eggs dark yellow and still a bit creamy. It’s the French way!

Since my Mother’s Day Luncheon has a PINK color scheme, salmon fits right in quite nicely!
Selecting a lovely piece of fish is about the hardest part of this recipe! You’ll roast it quickly and then combine everything right in the food processor. The special ingredient in my recipe is a touch of brandy. It really add a depth of flavor that’s the secret to this tasty spread.
The one important thing about this recipe is that you process it long enough to become perfectly smooth.
Some mousse recipes are created to use in a molded situation and contain some type of gelatin. This recipe won’t hold it’s shape in a mold, no matter how cold the mixture is. I’m much happier using it as a spread, or like it’s shown above, spooned into crispy choux puffs for a fancy luncheon presentation.
This recipe comes together in just a few minutes once your salmon is roasted and cooled. You can even do that the day before if you want. Personally, I love to make this the day before serving so it has time for the flavors to meld.
Or if I’m serving it for a Mother’s Day Luncheon the next day!

With some simple ingredients that come together in minutes, these Smoked Trout and Savory Cream Cheese Appetizers taste amazing.
When you combine cream cheese with savory and fresh ingredients like lemon, red onion, fresh herbs and capers, it’s a winning combination.
Since this isn’t a “spread” per se, I don’t mix the chunks of smoked trout into the savory cream cheese mixture. Rather, depending on the presentation, I like to crown each appetizer with bite-sized hunks of the smoked fish.
As you see in the choux puff stuffed appetizers above, I did the same thing, making each puff look incredibly appetizing.

Here’s the two desserts I chose to be the “sweet endings” to my fabulous Mother’s Day Luncheon. I’ll serve both with an assortment of teas to wind down what is sure to be a lovely afternoon.
The first is a light and moist Pink Grapefruit Chiffon Cake with White Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. Yes, I know it’s PINK!
I finished the cake off with some delightful sugar flowers and leaves I purchased on Amazon last year. They last forever if kept in a dry, dark and cool location.
It turned out so lovely with three luscious layers, just aching for some White Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. Depending on the size of cake pan you use, you’ll have 2 or 3 layers, so you will need 6 whole cups of frosting for this cake. (that’s exactly how much my recipe makes!)
Now, for the second Mother’s Day Luncheon dessert, I knew any gaggle of women would be looking around, waiting for the chocolate to appear! So as not to disappoint, I’ve also included a lovely Chocolate Grand Marnier Pots de Crème on the menu.
It’s densely chocolate, with a hint of citrus that gives it a new level of sophistication. In keeping with the party’s pink color-scheme, and the pink grapefruit cake, I garnished them with Candied Pink Grapefruit slices. They are amazingly addictive, so be careful to save enough for your presentation!
I finished the Chocolate Grand Marnier Pots de Crème with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream and fresh mint. Don’t they look lovely? And they taste even better!

After much deliberation, it was decided. I would finally make the time to create some Wax Sachets for Gifts that I’d been dreaming about.
After settling on this fabulous menu from cocktails to desserts, I knew I needed a really special Guest Party Favor. (the entire menu and recipes will be in an upcoming post, so be on the look out!)
I had been dabbling with the idea of giving my guests a lovely botanical-laced wax sachet. But how could they also become a part of my Mother’s Day Luncheon tablescape?
I think I came up with some really creative and beautiful options as you can see in the image above. What do you think, did they come out special enough for a Mother’s Day party favor? I surely think they did!
No worries, I created a handy printable instruction PDF to have next to you while making your customized wax sachets. And of course another PDF with all the fabulous printable BACKER CARDS AND HANG TAGS too!
