Ingredients For A Fabulous Life
raising the bar on life, one post at a time...
When you’re having friends drop by for afternoon cocktails this season, wouldn’t be lovely to whip out some fabulous frosty Summer adult treats from the freezer?
What a fun and novel way to serve cocktails during the warm weather months. When it’s so hot that even throwing together a pitcher of your signature cocktail can feel too daunting. What to do?
Make a few different flavors of Fruity Potent Pops and have them tucked away in the freezer for when it’s hot, and cocktail hour is looming. They’re a fabulous way to enjoy a Summer libation, with a fun and unique twist!
If you’d rather have a more traditional cocktail, but still have that frosty Summer adult treat vibe going, try Watermelon-Wine Slushers.
They’re full of fruity goodness, and just shout out “summer” with each sip you take!
We’re going to start off with a fast and simple “frosty Summer adult treat” hack!
Simply purchase some delicious fruit juice pops and a bottle of Prosecco wine from the grocer, and you’re half way there!
When you get home, pop (pun intended!) the Prosecco in the refrigerator to chill. Now you’re ready to serve tasty and frosty Summer adult treats whenever you get the urge.
To Serve “Pops in Prosecco”:
You’ll find that there are plenty of “boozy pop” recipes on Pinterest and circulating around the internet. And I’ve tried several different ones, but felt like I would have wanted them to be a little sweeter.
Once I started thinking about creating my own recipe for some frosty Summer adult treats, it dawned on me! When I make a traditional popsicle, I always make sure that they have a certain ratio of sugar to allow fine ice crystals to form.
If there isn’t enough sugar in your popsicles, they freeze into large “icy” crystals that change the texture of the finished pop. Keep in mind that alcohol does not freeze well (remember the vodka bottle you keep in the freezer?).
The addition of sugar to my recipe, both in the dessert wine and a simple sugar syrup takes care of both issues! It produces an “adult” pop that is both sweet enough, and freezes harder and with finer ice crystals! I call that a win-win, don’t you?
So, I took that concept and ran with it. The final recipe for Fruity Potent Pops forms popsicles that have just enough sweetness and freeze incredibly well too.
I used Barefoot brand wines for all my pops and they turned out fabulous. I like to make my pops with a “drinkable” wine that has a great price-point, and Barefoot wines fit the bill nicely. Use your favorite brand, or try one of the numerous varieties of Barefoot wines like Pink Moscato or their Peach “bubbly” that’s pictured here.
So easy to make, so delicious to drink, I mean eat, these Fruity Potent Pops should be on your “to do” list, and soon!
I’ve developed two different versions of this recipe, the first using fresh fruit and a fruit flavored wine. The second uses a fruit puree or canned nectar and fresh fruit with an unflavored Moscato varietal.
Both versions produce a fabulously fruity, but potent pop!
Yes, these pops are truly simple to make. But, I want to give you a few tips on how to make Fruity Potent Pops that turn out perfect every time!
Here’s the frosty Summer adult treat that packs a “whollop without warning”, so be careful!
True, they’re chock-full of fabulous sweet watermelon. You cut the watermelon into chunks and freeze it for a few hours before making the drinks. Then you combine the frozen fruit in the blender with simple syrup and the dessert wine of your choice, and whip them into a frozen frenzy!
I actually advise making the drinks a few hours before you want to serve the Watermelon-Wine Slushers. They benefit from getting fully frozen again after being processed in the blender. You’ll want to stir the mixture to keep it from becoming solid before serving time.
If you’d rather serve your Watermelon-Wine Slushers immediately after preparing them, offer them in “frosted” glasses straight from the freezer. It’ll make all the difference!
Watermelon-Wine Slushers are simply luscious and refreshing on a hot Summer’s day!
