I was at a complete loss. My usual brainstorming session didn’t end so well. I still didn’t have a fabulous idea for my Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree take home favors. I’ll tell you all about the party later in this post.
I’m known for the creative favors that go home after one of my theme parties.
But this time I was having trouble coming up with something “relevant” to the theme. And it couldn’t add more kitchen time to my prep-schedule. That was a must!
So in one of my “by-the-seat-of-my-pants” moments I decided to work on the “container”, and worry about its contents later!
To that end, I purchased a bag of twelve 3-inch paper-mache boxes (I needed 8) and tried to decide what to do with them.
I FORAGE FOR MOSS ON OUR MOUNTAIN ALL THE TIME – IT’S ADDICTING!
Since I’m using moss in some of the other signature elements for my Fairy party, I thought I’d start by covering the tops with some of my abundant moss collection. My Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree Take Home Favors were on their way!
In an inspired moment, I decided to embellished them with some of those fabulous botanicals I feature in the accompanying Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree Moss Framed Menu post.
Rose buds for the women, and “manly” dried rose petals for the guys. (okay, not so manly, but let’s just go with it, shall we?)
Rustling through my supply of tissue paper, I found several shades of purple and pink, so I thought, decoupage. But I didn’t want to commit to the time it would take to do all 8 pieces.
The solution: decorate half of them with the same sparkly purple spray paint I used to embellish the curly willow branches I’m using for some “background” party decor.
You can see that I just used a shallow cardboard box as a makeshift “spray paint chamber“. It worked like a charm!
Okay, now the “favors” were done, but unfortunately, still very empty.
What to do? I decided to go hunting on the internet for something… well fun. And that, my friends, is a very tall order!
I eventually ended up on Amazon and decided to plug in a very general search term, candy, and see where it took me.
My journey down the rabbit hole ended about an hour later when I came across some very cool…, wait for it, ROCKS.
Come on, stay with me here. I had wanted something relevant to nature, right? It had to fit into a little 3-inch box, right? And these were chocolate after all! So, despite H.H.’s reluctance when I told him, I ordered them and crossed my fingers.
Holy, Hannah, banana! These rocks are soooooo cute!
They’re so realistic and they actually taste good too. I took great glee in pouring them into my finished moss-boxes.
The cute little stones are lying all cozy on a bed made of matching tissue paper tucked into the bottom of the boxes.
It’s always an adventure when you set your creativity loose on a project. And I always know that whatever I end up with will be a true expression of my own personal style. It’s a great feeling…
I strive to give my readers some creative choices and lots of wiggle room when it comes to doing these kinds of projects.
Everyone has their own special skills, so get creative and let’s see what you come up with!
Why don’t you show us your finished party favors in The Fab Life Facebook Group? We’d love to see them and help celebrate your creativity!
