My Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree posts contain a number of options for the party decor and craft projects. The Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree napkins and table runners are just two the of the party’s craft projects. They’ll lend real panache and style to your fairy party’s decor.
I decided to kick it up a notch by choosing two coordinating fabrics for the tablescapes. The two patterns take the theme from just nature, to a magical respite among the trees surrounded by punches of mystical deep purples.
When used over deep purple satin tablecloths, the two patterns really “pop”! Once dusk arrived, the tablescapes provided lots of drama to the party space.
It’s really fun creating fabric projects and choosing from the myriad selection available, even online. Fabric projects can be that final decor component that really helps a theme looked “finished” and pulled together.
The party’s tablescape design called for two runners crossing in the middle of a round table. Then, each place setting would have a coordinating fabric napkin with simply hemmed edges. (if that!)
I’m not an accomplished seamstress by any means, but can do simple home decorating projects, etc.
My plan was to do two different versions of the runners, one with a sewing machine and the other as a no-sew project. This way I could offer a great project for the gal that doesn’t sew!
To keep things immensely simple, I purchased a matching trim to use around the perimeter of the runners, saving me from actually hemming the fabric at all.
NOTE – With the no-sew project, you simply carefully attach the trim with fabric glue. Place a yardstick on the edge of the fabric, leaving edge to adhere the trim.
Yes, that does make them non-washable, but as a rule I recommend using Scotch Guard on all your tablecloths and napkins anyway. I apply a light coat after washing and ironing my linens, especially the white lace ones! That little tip has saved me many hours of pre-soaking.
I knew this project wouldn’t take an immense amount of time. Even for an elementary level sewer (did I just call myself a waste disposal system?) as myself.
All told, it took me about 2 hours for all four runners. The 8 napkins were whipped out in about 90 minutes from start to finish. The above pic was taken before the naps were actually finished. It’s kind of a practical thing, but I needed to take the pictures before it got too dark that evening!
Now the fabulous news for the gals who don’t own a sewing machine and don’t want to!
I used FABRIC GLUE to attach the trim on two of my runners! It’s incredibly easy to use (I’m kinda messy) and it went super fast. Next time I might not even get my sewing machine out of the box!
As is my way with these types of projects, I’ve given you the basic guidelines to accomplish the finished project.
But, I’ve also left you lots of wiggle room to get creative and let you personal style shine through your finished design.
(NOTE: I really didn’t feel comfortable calling myself a “seamstress”, hence the bad joke!)

NO SEW METHOD
Instead of using a sewing machine, simply use Fabric glue to attach the trim to the edges of each side of the runners.
I used fabric glue for two of my runners and sewed the remaining two runners.
