fairies in the forest signature cocktail

Exploring the internet one day I came across a picture of an incredible drink.  Realizing it perfectly matched my Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree decor, I had to have one too!   That’s how I started to create my Fairies in the Forest Signature Cocktail.

butterfly pea extract bottle for fairies in the forest signature cocktailsHow did they get an ingredient to change colors I wondered? Turns out it’s the extract from a butterfly pea flower.

It works its magic when combined with a citric element like lemon or lime juiceIt reacts differently in various ingredients, sometimes going pink and other times going blue or purple.  How cool is that?

I decided I would definitely use this exotic ingredient, which I found readily available on Amazon. A purple cocktail would be a lovely way to greet my guests to my Fairies in the Forest Twilight Soiree.  It would be a colorful addition to the party appetizers of Rosemary and Asiago Crackers and Pistachio & Fig Brie Wheel with Pita & Bagel Chips.

This recipe is loosely based on the classic Boxcar cocktail of yesteryear. I updated it with the maraschino liquor and butterfly pea extract.  It turned out to be a really nice drink to serve on a warm summer evening to get the party rolling.
