It doesn’t matter whether you use a food dehydrator or your oven, you just want to dry a whole pile of thinly sliced apples. If you use the oven, it might take a bit longer at 200°F, but they’ll turn out just fine. My apple slices took about 6 hours at the highest setting on my dehydrator.
Once the dried apples slices have cooled, you’ll want to pulverize them into a fine dust without any lumps. I highly recommend using a coffee grinder-type machine for the job. I use mine exclusively for spices, so I don’t need to worry about coffee ground residue in my spices!
If you want to keep some of the Apple Dust for both sweet and savory use, package some of it up and label accordingly. Then you can add sugar to the rest and have a wonderfully crunchy, sweet, apple-laced Apple Dust Sugar!
